Day 2: Wednesday February 26
Today is the First day of Rio Carnival! We will be met by our beautiful tour guide, Nilzete (Nil). Nil will take us to visit a famous Afro-Brazilian Samba School! You will see backstage of Brazil’s hottest festival that is completely rooted in African heritage. Thank you ancestors! Dancing is one of the most representative features of the people from Salvador. The happiness in their lifestyle is directly related to the sense of music and the joy of being part of it, letting their bodies shake to its rhythm. Come to the school and meet the teachers, you'll discover that you don't really have to be born in Bahia to move like a true Bahian dancer! Next, we will take our dancing feet to “Little Africa” for a tour and lunch. In the evening, we will partake in the Street Festivals, being sure to stop at a local restaurant for a cultural food experience.
Day 3: Thursday February 27
I hope you are well rested because today, the Carnival Celebration continues! After a nutritious breakfast, we will spend the morning at our leisure. Our tour guide Nil will pick us up in the afternoon and lead us to a Carnival Parade and Block Party along the avenue of Santa Teresa. On the way, enjoy the taste of Brazil’s delicious street food!
Day 4: Friday February 28
Pack your bags. As if Rio was not enough, we are headed to the electrifying city of Salvador to continue our Carnival Celebration! You will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the airport for a quick flight to Salvador, Bahia. Upon arrival we will check in to our hotel. Dinner at Restaurante Amado This evening, we will travel to the historic center for live Carnival shows!
Day 5: Saturday March 1
Today we will focus on Salvador’s electrifying African Influence with a 4-hour City Tour! Nil and I will take you to the heart of the African diaspora in Brazil. By taking the Lacerda Elevator (Elevador Lacerda), a public urban elevator connecting the lower city (Cidade Baixa) to the upper city; we will continue to the older Historical Center of Salvador, the Pelourinho area. You will be led to an enlightened walk beyond the history of slavery. Brazil was the last country to abolish slavery, and it has the largest black population outside Africa, did you know that? Despite this part of the history, this experience highlights the immense contribution of Africans to Brazilian society with joy. Take notes, ask as much information as you want, because this is about our own history! On the way you'll have the chance to take beautiful and instagramable photos! KEEP IN MIND This is mostly a walking tour, but even though the distance from one point to another isn't that far, it's recommended to wear comfortable shoes.
Day 6: Sunday March 2
Beach Day! Pack your swimsuit and flip flops. Today will be spent at the famous beach known as Praia do Forte. We will enjoy all that Salvador’s Beach Vibes have to offer! From the Music and food, to the mixed drinks and beautiful scenery!
